With a broad range of experience acquired over more than 25 years of providing counsel and services to corporations, educational institutions, non-profits and government, I help my clients provide clear and relevant information to stakeholders.
My recent work has included stakeholder engagement and communications work for an innovative and high-profile renewable energy initiative. I’ve also served as the communications lead and media spokesperson for a community-based project involving purchasing residential properties and supporting the owners and their families through a relocation process.
For several years, I worked as a member of the community relations team for a proposed pipeline project. I also consulted as senior communications counsel and community engagement team member for a subsea transmission line and spent close to 10 years as a consulting member of the communications team for an electrical utility.
I served for three years as media relations manager for a large university, acting as the institution’s primary spokesperson and working on a daily basis with members of the media from across the region and around the world. In another past role, over the course of nearly six years I served as primary media contact and spokesperson and handled internal communications for an electrical utility.
I’ve written detailed communications strategies in addition to preparing content for websites and blogs and coordinating competitive intelligence research reports. In a past agency consulting role, I fully re‐worked the crisis communications plan for a Canadian airline, collaborated in providing crisis media training to company leadership from across the country and provided communications support and counsel to a number of energy firms.
Over the course of my career, I have been involved with a number of strategic planning initiatives. In a past role, I served as a dedicated member of a diverse team of professionals seconded to develop a strategic plan for a large corporate division. Our efforts involved working closely with members of the senior executive team and coordinating consultation with hundreds of employees at a number of different locations across a region. I made presentations about our approach to creating and sharing information about this strategic plan at two international communications conferences.
I have supported strategic planning initiatives for two universities and served as a communications and stakeholder engagement advisor to university leaders. As well, I have supported past strategic planning initiatives as a facilitator, contributor and writer for clients including an economic development agency and a health board.
I have a Bachelor of Public Relations (Co‐operative Education Option, ‘94) from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax and have completed the coursework for Dalhousie University’s Master of Electronic Commerce degree.
I have previously served on the boards of the Fredericton Public Library, Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, the Baddeck Public Library Society and Centre Bras d’Or and volunteered as a delivery driver with Meals on Wheels for two years.
